Controversial broadcaster Piers Morgan is being slammed for mocking Meghan Markle's appearance at Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee with images of the Queen's great-grandson, Prince Louis.

Meghan and her husband Prince Harry, the Queen's grandson, have made an appearance together in the UK for the Jubilee - in what has been a sideshow to the main celebrations after the couple quit official royal duties to move to the US two years ago.

Morgan, a long-time critic of the Sussexes, mocked Meghan's appearance at the Jubilee celebrations on Twitter by sharing photos of Prince Louis pulling faces.

"Is this when Aunty Meghan arrived?" Morgan said in a post accompanied by the images of Prince Louis.

But the joke was met with large amounts of criticism.

"You need to let it go, it has become an unhealthy infatuation," author Gerry Stergiopoulos said of Morgan's comments about Meghan.

"Why are you so obsessed with Meghan? It's really strange dude," another Twitter user wrote.

"You need help with this obsession," said another.

There were, however, some positive responses to his joke. Morgan told the New York Post it was those responses that "perfectly summarises public opinion to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex".

"Most people laughed because they're now global laughing stocks after all their hypocritical money-grabbing royal-bashing antics," Morgan said.

Morgan's comments came after he wrote in The Sun earlier this week that Brits should forget about the "ghastly" couple this weekend to celebrate the "remarkable" Queen.
