Brad Pitt has worn a skirt to the red carpet of his upcoming movie Bullet Train.

The Once Upon A Time in… Hollywood actor rocked a brown knee-length skirt and matching jacket at the Berlin screening for his new film.

Pitt also paired a rose-coloured shirt and matching cardigan with the leg-flashing number, finishing off the outfit with pendant necklaces, a pair of sunglasses and black combat boots.

He posed with fellow cast members Zazie Beetz, Kelly McCormick, Joey King, Brian Tyree Henry and Aaron Taylor-Johnson at the event.

Pitt was asked why he had chosen to wear a skirt by a reporter on the red carpet.

"The breeze, the breeze," Page Six reported him as saying.

While some on social media slammed Pitt for wearing a skirt and claimed he was trying to emulate the likes of former One Direction member Harry Styles, one fan pointed out Pitt had been wearing skirts since the 1990s.

"The number of people losing their damn minds because Brad Pitt wore a skirt to a premiere & saying they no longer respect him probably don't remember the 90s," one said, before posting a series of shots of Pitt in various dresses at promotional shoots from the time.

Pitt also wore a skirt for his famous role as Achilles in the 2004 movie Troy.

Bullet Train hits New Zealand cinemas on August 4.
