It is no secret that Dr Ashley Bloomfield has a musical side, busting out dance moves at the 'Super Saturday' COVID vaccination drive, caught singing and dancing at karaoke and revealing his favourite love song on live TV.
But unfortunately, a karaoke farewell bash for Dr Bloomfield is off the cards - for now.
Dr Bloomfield finishes his role as the Director-General of Health on July 29, after announcing he was stepping down from the role before his term was scheduled to end in June 2023.
During the announcement in April of his departure, Dr Bloomfield said there would be karaoke at his leaving party.
"I'll start with - well, famously I did a duet with Minister [Ayesha] Verrall to [Bee Gees hit] 'Staying Alive'. But probably I'll kick off with 'Friday I'm in Love' by The Cure," he said.
However, now that the country is experiencing a second peak in COVID cases, Dr Bloomfield said it was best to postpone the karaoke.
"We've cancelled the karaoke, there was no karaoke tonight," Dr Bloomfield said in a press conference.
"It's not something you generally do when there are senior public service people and politicians around.
"We were going to have a good, fun evening next week. We will do that later in the year, I hope, if the staff here still want to come when things are not in the situation they are.
"From my perspective, this is not the time for us to be doing those things, we know that they're the sorts of events that people are likely to spread COVID - usually unwillingly because they may be asymptomatic."
Reported COVID-19 cases have been fluctuating around the 10,000 mark, with 10,772 new community cases reported on Tuesday.
Dr Bloomfield advised people should follow guidelines wherever they go and anyone organising gatherings should consider what measures they can put into place to protect people and those who are unwell or meant to be isolating should not attend.
But that doesn't mean Dr Bloomfield won't leave without a celebration of sorts.
On Tuesday night, Dr Bloomfield is holding a farewell party and while it was meant to be a large event, it is now a small gathering, with everyone wearing masks and most people joining via Zoom.
So I guess we will have to wait to see more singing and dancing videos from the face of New Zealand's COVID response.
