AM's hosts have been left shocked after footage on the programme's news bulletin showed a panda giving birth at a Chinese zoo.

Chongqing Zoo announced on Monday a giant panda named Er Shun gave birth to twin cubs.

The 14-year-old panda had two boys both weighing 0.1kg, and by all reports, they're growing well and are now weighing 0.5kg, and expected to reach 110kg.

This was Er Shun's second set of twins. She travelled to Canada in 2013 and gave birth to a pair of cubs there in 2015.

AM co-host Ryan Bridge noticed the unexpected moment of the panda giving birth during the footage that ran during a news bulletin on Tuesday.

"Little did you know, hidden in that b-roll footage was the actual birth," Bridge said.

AM Early fill-in host Nicky Styris couldn't believe her eyes saying, "that's actually quite unreal".

Styris could also see the funny side of the moment saying, "imagine if we did that, just shoot them out like that".

Fellow AM co-host Melissa Chan-Green was left in shock from the footage, responding to Styris by saying, "oh my god, I certainly wouldn't do it on camera, that's for sure".
