Mitch McCann will become Newshub's first ever US Correspondent, Warner Bros. Discovery ANZ has announced.
The experienced presenter and reporter will bring a valuable New Zealand perspective to Newshub's coverage of stories from the United States and will be filing across all of Newshub's programmes and platforms.
"Newshub already has a Europe and Australia Correspondent and so it's really exciting to be extending our coverage of international news by adding a US Correspondent to our newsroom, particularly at a time when the domestic dynamic in America is so fascinating," said Warner Bros. Discovery ANZ Senior Director of News Sarah Bristow.
"Mitch has a proven track record as a phenomenal journalist and trusted broadcaster and is very passionate about covering US-based stories. I know he will excel at reporting on these issues for our audience and helping New Zealanders understand the relevance and significance of stories emerging from the United States."
McCann said: "To be Newshub's first US Correspondent is an honour and an incredible opportunity. I can't wait to bring Kiwis the most compelling stories from across the United States, especially at a time when the social and political climate is so intriguing. I'm eager to get settled, and get started."
McCann has been a reporter and presenter for Newshub in Auckland for the past six years, and previously worked as a radio journalist for RadioLIVE.
He has covered a number of international events including natural disasters in the Pacific Islands and Australia, as well as the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia, and the 2020 Olympics from Tokyo, Japan.
McCann has also covered a number of significant domestic stories for Newshub and most recently anchored Newshub Live at 11.30am. He presented the initial breaking news coverage of the Christchurch terror attack, the Whaakari White Island eruption and has been involved in presenting Newshub's daily COVID-19 pandemic coverage.
McCann has been a finalist at the New Zealand Radio Awards and the Voyager Media Awards
He will commence his new role in the US in September.
