Olivia Newton-John's family accepts offer to hold state funeral in Australia

Olivia Newton-John's family has accepted an offer of a state funeral to farewell the Australian star.

But along with the tributes from celebrity friends and fans, there's also been stories about her painful struggle in her final years.

Just as brilliant, beautiful and brave as Olivia Newton-John was, the full-of-life superstar was also fragile.

But with her show must go on attitude, her fighting spirit was always hidden underneath that smile.

The superstar's final performance was in February 2020 when she sang with John Farnham for the black summer bushfires charity concert in Australia.

"I'm so proud to be a part of this and be singing with you again," she said during the concert.

But behind the scenes, there were often signs of a struggle.

"She wouldn't sit down because it was too hard to stand up and I thought, 'This woman was in pain and she's worried about everyone else'," actor Paul Hogan said.

Newton-John was a pillar of strength, known to be naturally optimistic and calm.

"I've been doing great for a while and feeling really good. Strong," Newton-John said whilst on the red carpet.

The superstar gave credit to medical marijuana for giving her hope and easing her pain.

It was grown on her southern Californian ranch where she spent her final months with her family and filmed one of her last messages.

"I want to thank you for all of your support and send you all the love and light," she said in a video message.

Last night that light was bright pink which shone out from Australia's landmarks.

A colour not just honouring Newton-John but bringing awareness to the many more who face the same fight.
