Ed Sheeran has cancelled the first of his 2023 New Zealand concerts.

The concert at Wellington's Sky Stadium on February 1, 2023 would have signalled the start of his New Zealand tour.

But a statement on Ticketek's website says the date will not happen "due to ongoing uncertainties."

"Frontier Touring regret to advise that due to on-going uncertainties affecting a number of different variables with global touring, the first show of the New Zealand leg of Ed Sheeran’s + - = ÷ x Tour scheduled for Wednesday 1 February at Sky Stadium, is no longer going ahead as planned.

"The decision is not one that has been made lightly. We are very much looking forward to presenting this tour and do not foresee any problems with the remaining dates.

"We have emailed ticket holders with further information," the statement concluded.

As well as potential refunds, ticket holders to Ed Sheeran's Wednesday, February 1 concert will be offered the chance to  purchase tickets from a limited number on offer for the Thursday, February 2 Wellington concert, a statement from Frontier Touring said.

The company also said they could get the chance to buy tickets to the Eden Park concert in Auckland on Saturday, February 11 at 50 percent off.

Frontier Touring said the offer was available from 1pm on Tuesday, September 27 until 1pm on Friday, October 21, but "strictly while tickets remain".

The singer is still due to play the capital on Thursday, February 2.

The upcoming tour will be Sheeran's first tour down under since his Divide Tour in 2018; with 1,006,387 tickets sold across Australia and New Zealand alone, it saw the singer smash the record for the highest-selling tour in history.
