Jurassic Park actor Sam Neill has become a Sir at a ceremony in Auckland on Tuesday (local time).

He posted a picture from the event at Government House after he took on his new title as Knight Companion of the Order of New Zealand.

Sir Sam was given the honour in the Queen's Birthday Honours list in June 2022, after initially declining the title in 2009.

The then-National Government offered it to him, but he'd turned it down, saying the title of Sir was "too grand by far".

However in 2022, he said he had had a change of heart and accepted the title to increase the value placed on his profession, making him a Knight Companion of the Order of New Zealand for services to acting.

"Greatly honoured today by the Governor-General Dame Cindy Kiro at Govt House Auckland," he posted on Twitter.

"Redesignated K.C.N.Z.M ( Knight ). Dame Cindy was kind enough to tap me with the sword. Big day, very grateful."
