Kiwi-made LGBTQ+ series wins Emmy in New York

New Zealand series Rurangi has been named the Best Short Form Series at the International Emmy Awards in New York.

Rurangi, which is both a television series and a feature film, tells the story of transgender activist Caz Davis, who returns to his small hometown in an attempt to rebuild his relationship with his father who hasn't heard from him since before transitioning.

Both the series and the movie star Arlo Green and Elz Carrad in their acting debut.

The series was created by Oliver Page and Cole Meyers, who worked alongside Max Currie, Craig Gainsborough-Waring, Melissa Nickerson and Tweedie Waititi on the project.

The Rurangi feature film has previously won awards at film festivals in San Francisco, Madrid and Melbourne.

In Aotearoa the film is available via Neon.
