Newshub wins Best News Coverage at 2022 NZ Television Awards for coverage of Ukraine Invasion

Newshub's reporting of the war in Ukraine won Best News Coverage at the 2022 New Zealand Television Awards with the trophy being awarded during a glitzy event in Auckland on Thursday night.

It marks the fourth consecutive year that Newshub has won the Best News Coverage award.

Newshub Europe correspondent Lisette Reymer and Europe cameraman Daniel Pannett have spent much of the last nine months reporting on the Russian invasion.

Both Reymer and Pannett returned to Aotearoa ahead of the awards ceremony.

On Thursday morning, Reymer shared on AM that she decided to use the opportunity to surprise her family, who had no idea she was in the country.

Three and ThreeNow's docuseries Match Fit also won the NZ Television Award for Best Format Reality series.

The show delved into the health realities that face men and their whānau in Aotearoa, with World Cup winning coach Sir Graham Henry and Sir Wayne Shelford bringing together a team of former All Blacks from the late 1990s and early 2000s.

The Celebrate Matariki live event, of which Three was a broadcasting collaborator, also won the NZ Television Award for Best Live Event Coverage.

Warner Bros. Discovery - which owns Three and Newshub - received a total 13 nominations, including nods for Patrick Gower, Lisette Reymer, Oriini Kaipara, Kanoa Lloyd, Ryan Bridge, Best News Coverage, Best Live Event Coverage, MasterChef New Zealand, Match Fit and Head High.
