Topp Twins vow to keep on fighting breast cancer at inaugural Topp Prize ceremony

The Topp Twins say they are "good fighters" and are vowing to carry on their battle against breast cancer.

The comments were made at the unveiling of the Topp Prize, a new comedy award named in their honour which was presented to Chris Parker.

"It's been a tough year for Linda and me, both having cancer," said Dame Jools Topp.

"It's not over yet, there's still lots of treatment to happen and all that sort of stuff. But we're good fighters, we've got a lot of vouchers saved up because we've made a lot of people laugh."

The Topp Twins were honoured for their 40 years of performing at an event in Auckland on Monday night, their first appearance in public since their breast cancer treatment.

In a post on their Facebook, the Twins shared behind the scenes shots from the show, as well as a family photo.

"Wow what an amazing night. Topp Class performers crew and audience, it was the best night ever. Thank you Lynda and Jools Topp," the post said.

Funds from the event, which featured musicians playing their versions of Topp Twins' songs, would help pay for the twins' ongoing treatment and living costs.

The event was a sell-out.

In March, the entertainment legends announced they were both fighting breast cancer.

Jools was first diagnosed with breast cancer back in 2006 at the age of 48 but overcame it after her left breast was removed and weeks of gruelling chemotherapy.

Jools said she began to feel unwell again last year shortly after Lynda found out she also had breast cancer.

But in September, their fight suffered a blow when it was revealed Lynda had been forced to stop chemotherapy for her breast cancer due to a "nerve-damaging side effect".
