Filmmaker James Cameron reveals new film Avatar: The Ways of Water in London

Words like "phenomenal", "breathtaking", and "visceral", and sentences like, "This is how you do epic blockbustering", are music to the ears of Oscar-winning filmmaker James Cameron.

He finally unveiled his new film Avatar: The Way of Water in London on Wednesday. But the self-proclaimed King of the World isn't dancing a box office jig just yet.

"It doesn't matter what film it is, it doesn't matter how long it took. You're always gonna be nervous when you put a film out into the market, and it's gonna be judged," Cameron said.

Although Cameron was apprehensive about the film's premiere, his long-time cinematic cohort Sigourney Weaver was clearly stoked to head back to Pandora and be back with her Na'Vi whānau.

"I'm so excited to see it again tonight because I think we were so amazed by it and crying throughout that I am thrilled to see it again and share it with other people," Weaver said.

Weaver shared her latest underwater Avatar experience with Kate Winslet, who is new to the Na'Vi fray and swimming in far warmer waters than her last Titanic Cameron collaboration.

She plays opposite Kiwi actor Cliff Curtis in the new chapter which leads to the Metkayina reef clan, diving deep - and learning how to hold her breath to do it.

"I was reminding Sigourney today that she and I had a scene together on the bottom of the tank and we actually managed over four minutes in action. I reminded her of that and she was [like] oh my gosh I forgot about that I'm so proud of us," Winslet said.

The longest Winslet actually held her breath was about seven minutes.

"It was actually seven minutes and 15 seconds," Winslet said.

New Zealand fans have slightly longer to wait, with Avatar: The Way of Water splashing down in cinemas next week.
