UK MP proposes to strip Harry and Meghan of their royal titles

A UK MP has suggested Prince Harry and Meghan could have their Sussexes titles taken off them through a vote in the House of Commons.

Conservative MP Bob Seely suggested the pair be stripped of their titles after the couple's tell-all Netflix series was released on Thursday.

In the Netflix documentary, Harry accuses the Royal Family of having a "huge level of unconscious bias".

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex left the Royal Family in 2020 to live in the US and have been criticised for attacking the Royal Family and the British media, Telegraph UK reported.

Telegraph UK also reported Seely planned to move proposed legislation forward which could result in the removal of the couple's royal titles.

If Seely is successful the legislation would be brought forward in 2023 and would lead to MPs voting on whether or not the Privy Council should strip them of their titles.

"Harry Windsor should voluntarily relinquish his titles. If he doesn't, Parliament should act to remove them," Seely said.

He added: "As well as trashing his family and monetising his misery for public consumption, he is also attacking some important institutions in this country."

Another UK MP also agreed the couple should have their titles removed.

"As a Member of Parliament for a Sussex constituency and having been born in Sussex and lived most of my life here I am ashamed that this deeply embarrassing couple bear the title of our great county. It is time to take the title back from someone so clearly lacking any respect," MP Tim Loughton tweeted.

Telegraph UK reported Harry and Meghan signed deals with Netflix and Spotify reportedly worth more than £100 million (NZ$191 million) after quitting their role as working royals.
