William Waiirua fails to impress in audition for Cyclone Gabrielle relief concert in Christchurch

AM's William Waiirua has failed to impress Christchurch singer Emma Dilemma in an audition to be part of her act at Friday night's Cyclone Gabrielle relief concert.

Waiirua noticed the singer had a scratchy voice ahead of her appearance at the sold out Town Hall event, which is taking place to raise funds for those affected by the cyclone.

He offered to stand in for her, and sang a few notes of her song 'Bounce'.

But Dilemma wasn't impressed, joking, "I think we're pretty covered."

She then added, "I'll grab your number and I'll give you a call."

Dilemma will perform alongside the likes of Neil Finn, L.A.B. and Lorde at the relief concert, which is being hosted by Newshub's Mike McRoberts.

She told AM she was "pretty nervous" to be part of the sold-out event.

"I'm really excited to be sharing the stage with those artists. Especially the week of our Earthquake anniversary as well, it's kind of this cathartic thing to give back to the North Island who gave so much to us when we needed it."
