ITV has confirmed Jeremy Clarkson will host the next season of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? after widespread backlash over an opinion piece on Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex.

There were reports Clarkson and the show's future was in jeopardy following the controversial column he wrote in The Sun newspaper about Prince Harry's wife.

The British television presenter admitted his hatred for Meghan in the piece which became the most complained about piece to the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO).

"At night, I'm unable to sleep as I lie there, grinding my teeth and dreaming of the day when she is made to parade naked through the streets of every town in Britain while the crowds chant, 'Shame!' and throw lumps of excrement at her," Clarkson wrote.

Clarkson has since apologised, saying his language was "disgraceful".

However, despite the backlash, Clarkson will remain the host of popular gameshow Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?

An ITV spokesperson told Sky News it is contractually committed to a further series of the show which has already been recorded.

"There are no further commissioning commitments beyond that currently as is typical with such shows where we make commissioning decisions on a series-by-series basis," the spokesperson told the news outlet.

"Therefore for the avoidance of doubt neither Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? nor Jeremy Clarkson have been cancelled."
