Rugby league legends  Ruben Wiki and Tawera Nikau have been named as head coaches for Match Fit - League Legends which is due to premiere on Three and ThreeNow in April.

The third season of the award-winning documentary series about men's health will focus on rugby league, in a change from the previous seasons' focus on rugby union.

In 2008, Wiki became the first New Zealander to reach 300 first grade NRL games and played for the Warriors.

Nikau began his career playing rugby league for the Otara Scorpions before coaching the New Zealand Māori rugby league team in 2004 and 2005.

Warner Bros. Discovery ANZ has also named the nine former league players who will be under their tutelage as they ready themselves for a final match after 15 weeks of preparation.

Ali Lauiti’iti, Paul Rauhihi, Hame Lauaki, Jerry Seuseu, Henry Fa’afili, Lesley ‘The Volcano’ Vainikolo, Clinton Toopi, Shontayne Hape and Sione Faumuina will all take part in the docu series.

All of them currently face life-threatening health conditions an the latest season of the show will delve deeper into the health realities that face men and their whānau in Aotearoa.

Season two of the show saw World Cup winning coach Sir Graham Henry and rugby royalty Sir Wayne Shelford bring together a team of former All Blacks from the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Match Fit season one won the Best Reality Series at the 2021 NZ TV Awards.
