Rod Stewart ends New Zealand tour with tattoo from Kiwi artist

Sir Rod Stewart has celebrated wrapping up his New Zealand tour by getting a Celtic FC tattoo from a Kiwi artist.

The 'Maggie May' singer shared a picture on Instagram of the work being carried out by Auckland tattooist Ray Waller, with the caption, "Getting a 'Glasgow Celtic' tattoo in Auckland to celebrate my beloved team 'You're in My Heart'."

Stewart was also seen wearing a Celtic FC necklace in the photo.

His wife Penny Lancaster commented on the tattoo, writing ,"Amazing celebration to end a great Australian/New Zealand tour."

Auckland-based artist Waller also shared the picture, saying it was "an absolute pleasure" to ink the 78-year-old.

Stewart and his family had spent Easter Weekend exploring the best of New Zealand as he toured Dunedin, Napier and Auckland.

On Thursday, Lancaster shared photos of their fishing trip near Rakino Island, as well as a photo of the view from the top of the Sky Tower.

Taking to Instagram, she uploaded a photo of herself holding up a fish and smiling, adding, "we freed the little guy after," as well as a snap of her posing with their two sons Alastair, 17, and Aiden, 12.

She also shared a snap from the ferry to Waiheke on Friday morning, where it's believed they went ziplining and enjoyed the island's fine dining.

The 'Sailing' singer wrapped up his New Zealand jaunt with a "delightfully inappropriate" final date in Auckland, a portion of proceeds from which were to go the Cyclone Gabrielle relief fund.
