Drew Barrymore rushed off stage after stalker charges her at event

ET actress Drew Barrymore has been rushed off stage at an event in New York after a stalker charged the stage and started talking to her.

Barrymore had been interviewing Reneé Rapp at the 92nd Street Y on Monday (US time) when the incident took place.

During the chat, a man interrupted shouting: "Drew Barrymore!"

Shaken, Barrymore responded: "Oh my God, yes? Hi!" as the person got out of their chair and headed towards her.

"I'm Chad Michael Busto, you know who I am," he said.

"I need to see you at some point while I'm here in New York."

As security guards swooped on the man, telling him to "back up," Barrymore was escorted offstage by Rapp.

It was reported the pair had returned to the stage a few moments later after the man was taken out of the venue.

Rapp told the audience on returning that she was impressed by how calm the actress was and had dismissed security.

"They're like, 'Do you need anything, do you need us to stay?' [Barrymore] was like: 'Oh no, I got it, I'm good!'"

The 50 First Dates actress also joked about being part of a live version of movie The Bodyguard after security swooped in.

"Well, I got a new definition of your sexiness, it's that level of protectiveness. That went full bodyguard! You are my Kevin Costner!" she said to Rapp.

TMZ reported the man wasn't arrested.
