Paris Hilton slammed for holidaying on Maui after wildfire kills 96

Socialite Paris Hilton has been slammed for taking a family holiday on Maui, just kilometres away from where wildfires swept through Lahaina, killing at least 96 people.

Hilton is believed to be at a resort in Wailea on Maui's west coast just 30 minutes away from where the blaze struck last week.

There have been calls for tourists to stay away from the island after the fires - Aquaman actor Jason Momoa has been vocal in echoing the demands from the local tourist authority for people to cancel any holiday plans.

On Sunday, the Daily Mail posted photographs of the socialite and DJ cuddling with husband, Carter Reum, in the ocean at a resort in Wailea.

Sources close to Hilton told The Daily Mail she had 'absolutely' been helping out delivering supplies on the island in the aftermath.

But others have slammed her "privilege" online for continuing with the holiday.

"Tone. Meet my friend Deaf," one person wrote on Twitter.

"You are ghastly," another began online, before adding: "Imagine watching thousands of people lose their homes, loved ones, families etc and then expecting them to serve you drinks while you frolic on the beach on front of them."

Hilton has shared links to fundraising pages on her Instagram to her millions of followers, but hasn't commented on the holiday.
