How The Black Seeds turned their biggest hit into te reo Māori

The Black Seeds' Barnaby Weir says turning their iconic Kiwi track 'So True' into a Waiata Anthems te reo Māori version was "more pleasure than terror."

The track's just been released as part of Māori Language Week.

Weir told The Project it was a "great privilege", given the "song was out 20 years ago, and it's probably one of our more well-known tracks."

"So, there's a familiarity there."

Weir also told the show the band wanted a "legitimate literal translation, not too poetic" for the new version. He also admitted the group has "slightly changed the chorus" for the release.

The reggae-inspired group, who got their start in the late 1990s, hail from Wellington.
