Former Prime Minister Dame Jacinda Ardern has put the Harvard classroom on pause to attend George and Amal Clooney's second annual Albie Awards in New York, rubbing shoulders with A-list celebrities.

The Clooney Foundation, founded by husband and wife, actor George Clooney and Amal Clooney, an international human rights lawyer, hosted the event in New York on Friday (local time).

The awards are to "shine a protective spotlight on courageous justice defenders who are at risk".

Inside the New York Public Library, the New York Times reports Heidi Klum nursed a beer with Sofia Vergara, while US businessman Barry Diller greeted ex-wife of Bill Gates, Melinda Gates.

Other big names included actors Anne Hathaway, Scarlett Johansson and Meryl Streep.

Many of them grabbed a picture with Aotearoa's former Prime Minister at the event.

In an Instagram post, US actress AnnaSophia Robb shared an album of pictures from the "unforgettable" Albie Awards.

The eighth picture in Robb's Instagram post is a picture of herself and Dame Jacinda beaming with smiles.

"The night celebrated heroes @truth_hounds @tlhr.ig @scmsyriancenter and @panzifoundation in their fight for justice. It’s harrowing learning about the atrocities they face, but I am beyond inspired by their relentless and hopeful spirits," Robb wrote.

One follower of Robb and very clearly a Kiwi asked, "What's my Prime Minister is doing here? (sic)".

Among many other comments was New Zealand actress and acting coach Dame Miranda Harcourt.

"Holy macaroni! Two of my favorite women in one pic?! Xxx," Dame Miranda commented.

"We missed you!!" Replied Robb.

So too did Dame Miranda's daughter, actress Thomasin McKenzie.

"8th pic is iconic," she said. Robb replied saying "I DIED".
