Kiwi comic and actor Rhys Darby is to host the International Emmy Awards on Tuesday in New York. 

He shared the news on Instagram on Tuesday with a simple: "Rhys Darby (me) will Host the 51st International Emmy Awards in New York City." 

The International Emmy Awards are separate from the annual Emmy Awards, which usually air in January. 

The show celebrates television initially produced and aired outside the US. 

Fans were excited to see the news of Darby's hosting gig, with one declaring: "Slay it, king." 

Another asked if there would be "robot noises" in a nod to Darby's impressions background. 

Darby himself has proved more popular with audiences since the airing of Our Flag Means Death, which saw his character Stede Bonnet romancing Taika Waititi's Blackbeard. 

The show has inspired fan fiction, memes and tribute art online.
