Christopher Eccleston, the actor who relaunched British sci-fi series Doctor Who in 2005 as the ninth Doctor, will make his New Zealand convention debut at special events in Auckland and Wellington in February.

Eccleston will be joined by actresses Pearl Mackie who played Bill alongside Peter Capaldi's Doctor and Wendy Padbury, who played companion Zoe Heriot. Padbury first appeared in the show in 1968 travelling in the TARDIS with Patrick Troughton's second Doctor.

Australian actor and comedian Rob Lloyd, who debuted a popular stage show Who, Me about a fan's obsession with the hit series, will also be heading to Aotearoa.

The Lord of Time: A Doctor Who Event will take place in Auckland on February 24 and Wellington on February 25.

It has been organised to coincide with the show's 60th anniversary celebrations, which began on November 23, the date the very first episode of the show aired in 1963.

Armageddon Expo founder and Lord of Time organiser William Geradts said he was compelled to put on an event to mark the occasion.

"Doctor Who is such an iconic show that appeals to so many generations and really brings people together. Sixty years is a huge milestone, so we thought it would be the perfect time to host an event dedicated to celebrating this amazing show," he said.

The Lord of Time: A Doctor Who Event will feature Q&A and discussion panels with each guest to allow fans to discover insights behind the series. A special Group Panel will feature all the event guests on stage for the first time together.

Tickets and tokens for the two Lord of Time conventions are on sale via iTicket for the Auckland show and Ticketmaster for the Wellington show.
