Princess Diana's brother Earl Spencer says her press attention 'more dangerous' than Kate scrutiny

Princess Diana's brother has described the press attention she suffered as "more dangerous" than the recent scrutiny surrounding Princess Kate.

In an interview with BBC on Sunday, Earl Spencer expressed his concerns, saying he worries about "what happened to the truth".

When asked about the online speculation surrounding the health of the Princess of Wales, Spencer said the situation had been riskier for Princess Diana.

"I think it was more dangerous back in the day," he said.

Princess Diana died in 1997 due to extensive injuries after her car crashed inside the Pont de l'Alma tunnel in Paris, while it was being pursued by photographers.

Both Princess Diana's boyfriend Al Fayed and the driver, Paul, died instantly.

"I think, if I look back to '97 and Diana's death, I think that was so shocking too - the circumstances of her death were so shocking, that it did make the industry that supports the paparazzi really consider more carefully what it could and couldn't do," he explained.

"Not because they had a moral judgement, but because it was unacceptable to the public."

Following weeks of conspiracy theories surrounding Kate Middleton, Spencer added: "I do worry about what happened to the truth."

Since undergoing major abdominal surgery in January, the Princess of Wales has been subjected to speculation surrounding her unknown health condition.

The rumour mill intensified when she took blame for editing the family photograph released by Kensington Palace on Mother's Day, which was taken down by several picture agencies over concerns it had been manipulated.

"Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother's Day," she tweeted at the time.

Along with several imperfections in the image, viewers also spotted Kate wasn't wearing a wedding ring - which has since sparked theories about her marriage.
