MAFS expert Alessandra Rampolla pays tribute to Sydney stabbing victims

Married at First Sight Australia expert Alessandra Rampolla has shared an emotional tribute to those murdered at Westfield Bondi on Saturday.

Joel Cauchi killed six people and wounded more - including a nine-month-old baby - at the Sydney mall.

Rampolla uploaded a message to her social media, revealing deep ties to the Bondi area.

While originally from Puerto Rico, Rampolla said she had adopted Bondi as her second home since filming began on the reality series and was sickened by the tragic news.

"I'm so very sad! It's hard to wrap my brain around something so horrific," she wrote.

She said it had been the first place she had been able to go to after leaving hotel quarantine during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

"It's where I've built profound friendships, amazing memories and mindful community. It's my home away from home. Praying for all those whose lives were ruthlessly taken, those who are recovering in hospital, and all those who witnessed or were in any way traumatised by this tragedy."

On Monday, Australian Health Minister Ryan Park provided an update on the nine-month old baby who was critically wounded in the attack. The baby's mother, Ashlee Good, was one of those murdered.

He said her condition in hospital had been downgraded from "critical" to "serious", which was "a big change and a significant improvement".

"What we hope to do is get the baby on the ward in the coming days. That would be a great outcome."

Cauchi was shot dead by police in Bondi Junction Westfield after he lunged at an officer with his knife.

His parents, Andrew and Michele Cauchi, declined to speak to media, but provided a statement saying they were "absolutely devastated by the traumatic events that occurred".

"Joel's actions were truly horrific, and we are still trying to comprehend what has happened. He has battled with mental health issues since he was a teenager," it said.

The parents reached out to police after seeing footage of the attack on television.
