Paulo Liuzzo, the ex-boyfriend of Prince Andrew's daughter Princess Beatrice, has been found dead in Miami of a suspected drugs overdose.

The pair dated for a year from 2005 to 2006 when she was 17 years old and he was 24.

They met through mutual friends and began dating in July 2005 and kept the relationship secret for almost a year. However, they split in May 2006 when reports of a manslaughter charge laid against Liuzzo were made public.

Police were called to the citizenM Miami Worldcenter hotel at 3.22pm on February 7, the Daily Mail reported.

A spokesperson told the outlet: "It was investigated as an overdose death. The investigation is open and ongoing."

It was also claimed Liuzzo had racked up substantial debts with loan sharks due to a gambling addiction.

Princess Beatrice is said to be "heartbroken" over the news, according to an unnamed source.

The tabloid also reported Liuzzo had been previously arrested in Australia over a string of offenses including possessing cocaine.

He was arrested on the Gold Coast on September 27, 2009, after crashing a hire car into traffic lights.

He was charged with fraud, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, drug possession and driving without due care and attention.
