Orlando Bloom recounts moment of terror in skies during AM interview

The Lord of the Rings star Orlando Bloom has revealed he was "freaking out" during the filming of his new extreme sports series as at one moment, he thought he was going to die.

Speaking to AM on Thursday, Bloom, 47, revealed that while wingsuiting for one of the episodes, a safety feature on the suit didn't work properly - leaving him fearing for his life.

"On my seventh jump I'm under the canopy and I pulled my chute, and I pulled the right toggle and it didn't work," he told hosts Lloyd Burr and Melissa Chan-Green.

"I'm freaking out, my heart is racing and I'm thinking all kind of blue murder," he said, before explaining he had to calmly think about his training mid-air rather than succumbing to the panic.

In Orlando Bloom: To The Edge, Bloom tries wingsuiting, free diving and rock climbing.

Bloom admitted that taking on an unscripted show where he could be himself, rather than a character, was also a daunting prospect.

"I put a lot of pressure on myself to perform. No character to hide behind or director to tell you what to do," he said.

He also revealed he was desperate to get back to Aotearoa, having been here to film The Lord of the Rings' trilogy during the early 2000s.

"I miss it so much, I must come back soon," he said.

Orlando Bloom: To The Edge is streaming on ThreeNow.
