Time to be grown-ups here and talk about a fairly controversial topic: period sex.

It's certainly divisive - some people, both men and women, can't image anything grosser, while others aren't bothered at all.

But for those who hate the idea of the mess and clean-up, a new product is here to make your life a little better. Ziggy is the first reusable menstrual cup that can be worn during penetrative sex, made by a Swedish feminine care brand calling Intimina.

"Half the world will, once, or currently menstruate," global brand director Amandine Pranlas-Descours told The Independent. "At Intimina, we believe it's high time women were offered more choice, more control, and more freedom during her period."

The cup costs around $70NZD and apparently can last up to two years, meaning it's a relatively low cost investment.

According to the website, the cup sits just below the cervix and creates a vacuum seal to catch blood. Its flat shape is so thin, Intimina claims it cannot be felt, and causes no dryness or irritation.

It's made of non-toxic medial grade silicon, and can be worn for up to 12 hours.

While the company is based in Sweden, there is international shipping available for Kiwi customers.
