Eating disorders are regarded as some of the most dangerous forms of mental illness, affecting thousands of New Zealanders, yet so few of us actually understand the toll they can have on a loved one.
This week is International Eating Disorder Awareness Week, a time to bring attention to the myths and misunderstandings that surround this strain of mental illness.
Chair of the Eating Disorder Association of New Zealand, Nicki WIlson, has personally watched, and supported, a number of recovery journeys and she spoke to The AM Show.
