The ultra-moisturiser under $20 celebrities can't live without

As temperatures get colder and our skin gets drier, sometimes it feels like anything you put on your skin is immediately sucked into the vortex of cracks and dry spots. It can be easy to end up shelling out hundreds, even thousands on moisturisers that promise to turn your skin into the glowing, dewy sheath of your dreams.

But what if I told you the answer, beloved by celebrities and poor students alike, could be snaffled for under $20? Enter Weleda Skin Food, a tiny green tube holding an intensely hydrating whole body cream you can put anywhere from your face to your feet.

Weleda told Newshub the formula has been around since 1926.

It's a favourite of celebrities like Rihanna, Adele and Julia Roberts. Victoria Beckham told InStyle magazine it was her "body secret".

"What I love about it is that it's not particularly expensive and you can find it anywhere," she explained. "The formula is so thick and buttery... I suppose some people may not like the greasiness, but it helps me hold on to the colour. And by the time I leave the house, I feel as if it's really sunk in. Like my skin's had a good drink."

Julia Roberts also told the magazine she uses it as a hand cream.

"I put it on my hands after I wash the dishes, and wind up putting it on my elbows and feet," she said. "Before you know it, I've squeezed this poor little green tube into a twist."

And it's also loved by those closer to home. Dancing With the Stars NZ judge Camilla Sacre-Dallerup said it's been saving her skin after long hours covered in makeup under the hot lights of the show.

"Weleda Skin Food is my go to when my skin feels tired, it's like a quick facial but I also use it every night on my hands," she told Newshub.

Skin Food includes extracts of organic chamomile, calendula, wild pansy and rosemary in a thick base of sunflower seed oil, sweet almond oil and organic beeswax to provide a fine protective barrier against the ravages of wind and weather.

It's also great for chapped lips and noses, as a revitalising face mask or as a make-up primer and a highlighter for cheekbones.

The 30ml bottle can be bought on the Weleda website for $13.90, or the 75ml bottle is $22.90.
