Aucklanders turned out in droves to shop on Thursday as the new flagship H&M store was declared open.

The new store is part of the Commercial Bay store development in Auckland's CBD, the first store to open.

On Thursday morning over 700 people turned out for the grand opening, complete with cinnamon rolls, DJs and the much-anticipated iconic team dance, performed at every H&M opening across the globe. The new team had been practicing for weeks, a spokesperson told Newshub.

The store spans approximately 3,500 square metres, set over four levels and employing 120 members of staff.

Exciting news for keen home decorators - the store will offer the first Home range available in Auckland.  It will also cater for men, women, kids and babies as well as offering the Conscious collection, an on-going range of products made from sustainable materials. Customers will also be able to use the brand's garment collecting service to give their unwanted items a new life.

It's the first opening in the hotly anticipated $1 billion Commercial Bay development.

"We are excited to finally be able to announce the opening of our Commercial Bay store and to be able to offer our customers two incredible fashion shopping destinations within Auckland," said Hans Andersson, country manager for H&M Australia and New Zealand.

"We are also looking forward to introducing the H&M Home concept to our Auckland customers as we feel this really rounds out our wide assortment offering for this flagship store."

H&M entered the New Zealand market in 2016. Today there are four stores nationwide; Sylvia Park and Commercial Bay in Auckland, The Crossing in Christchurch and Queensgate in Wellington.
