A mother who blamed "radical feminists with an axe to grind" for her son still being single has inspired a legion of memes on Twitter.

Florida woman Marla Reynolds called her ex-Navy son Pieter Hanson "a gentleman who respects women" but won't go on solo dates "due to the current climate of false sexual accusations".

Ms Reynolds closed her now-deleted tweet with "I VOTE #HimToo" - a reference to the hashtag originally used to bring awareness to male sexual assault survivors (following on from #MeToo), but now co-opted by conservatives in the wake of Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court confirmation drama.

The internet promptly got to work, spoofing the idea with some sizzling memes - including Norman Bates from Psycho and Jack Nicholson's character in The Shining.

And Rick Astley.

Even his brother got in on the act.

Pieter Hanson himself saw the funny side of it, coming out with a lookalike picture tweet, gently chastising his mother and proclaiming his support for the #MeToo movement.

Moral of the story? Ask your son before you publicly commit him to a controversial social movement - in front of the whole world.
