With 'Day of the Dead' approaching and Mexican my all-time favourite cuisine, I decided it was time for the ultimate guide on where to celebrate with an all-important Mexican fiesta.

'Día de Muertos' is a Mexican celebration honouring family and those that have passed on. For Kiwis this year it falls on Friday November 2.

To celebrate on the day in question, go eat up at your closet branch of our favourite spot: Mexico.

On November 2 all Mexico Restaurants across New Zealand (not including Auckland International Airport) will be commemorating 'Día de Muertos' with Jose Cuervo tequila.

Deals include:

  • A special menu available only on the day. That includes a prawn and chorizo empanada, chicken plancha in mole amarillo and a doughnut dessert. YUM.
  • 'Day of the Dead' margaritas at a special price.
  • Jose Cuervo Tequila tastings
  • The chance to win a Margarita Masterclass for you and four friends.

If you're in the mood to celebrate a little earlier in the week, another option is 'Day of The Dead Food Truck Fiesta' at the La Cigale market.

According to the event page, on Wednesday October 31 they've invited some of the most exciting members of the Auckland Food Truck Collective to offer you some American street food. There will be face painting on offer and a bar in full swing.

Check out what's on offer from the food trucks:

  • Taco Loco NZ
  • Double Dutch Fries
  • Olas Latin Food
  • Empanadas "Sabores"
  • Vege Bang Bang
  • Las Masitas
  • Lalele Organic Gelato
