Stationery queen Kristina Karlsson brings pen and paper to the people

In the age of the laptop, iPad, tablet and cellphone you might think pen and paper were a thing of the past - but think again.

Swedish entrepreneur Kristina Karlsson is a self-confessed stationery freak and she's made a very successful career out of it with the kikki.K stationery business.

But 20-odd years ago, Ms Karlsson's future was keeping her and her partner up at night.

"At 3am one morning, I woke him up for the fifth time asking what am I going to do with my life and he turned on the light and said 'why don't we write down what is important to you'," she told Newshub.

These days, every item on her 3am list is ticked. She loves her job, owns a business and it's fair to say is earning more than $500 a week.

Top of her latest list was to write a book, so this year the stationery queen put pen to paper - or rather finger to keyboard.

"I had to do it fast, and handwriting wasn't an option," she says.

She admits that these days stationery has some stiff competition.

"In a very tech-driven world we're connected and holding our devices 24/7, so it's very nice to disconnect and reconnect using paper."

And the magic of stationery seems to be rubbing off on everyone.
