Celebrity trainer Jillian Michaels slams Keto diet in epic rant

Celebrity trainer Jillian Michaels has slammed the Keto diet in a new interview, saying anyone who eats only meat and fat lacks "common sense".

"I don't understand. Like, why would anybody think this is a good idea?" Michaels, 44, asked Women's Health.

"You know what we need to do? All fat and animal protein," she said mockingly, before laying down the law. "No! Bad plan. For a million reasons."

The ketogenic diet - commonly referred to as the keto diet - is a low-carb, high-fat eating plan, where you drastically reduce carbohydrate intake and replace it with fat. This means bacon, other meats, eggs, avocado are in; grains, legumes, potatoes and even most fruit is out.

Celebrities like Halle Berry, Megan Fox and Victoria's Secret model Adriana Lima all swear by the drastic plan, but Michaels says it defies science.

The high-fat, low-carb diet ignores the reality that "your cells, your macromolecules, are literally made up of protein, fat, carbohydrates, nucleic acids," explained the Biggest Loser trainer.

"When you do not eat one of the three macronutrients - those three things i just mentioned -  you're starving your cells," she added.

"Those macronutrients serve a very important purpose for your overall health and well-being. Each and every one of them. Period, end of story."

Instead, Michaels recommends you stick to a more simple diet plan to shed the kilos.

"You don't eat processed sugar, you don't eat processed grains and to make a very long story short, avoid the keto diet," she said. "Common sense: A balanced diet is key."
