Auckland bakery The Caker savaged for 'ugly', 'unacceptable' wedding cake

Auckland luxury cake company The Cakery has shown that you truly can't please everyone.

In a post to Facebook on Thursday afternoon, the company showed a picture of a wedding cake which had been commissioned, beside a rather disgruntled email from the bride who had ordered it.

"I don't know how ive paid for the simplest cake with minimal decorations and paid the amount I have just coz its 'The Caker' - this is just unacceptable. This is the ugliest cake iv seen. I want a full refund. I expect a reply (sic)."

The cake was a two tier, light pink, fully iced wedding cake with what appear to be fresh flowers and raspberries decorating the tiers.

While clearly put out by the complaint, the company says it had "no choice" but to refund the cake in full.

They also did not collect the cake back from the customer.

"It's unfortunate, but sometimes it's easier to just refund and say see ya to the whole situation!" they wrote on Facebook.

"I personally loved the look of this cake, which we felt fitted what the customer had asked for. Ultimately we would never send out something we weren't happy with... so I'm completely shook".

The post has received nearly 450 comments, mostly in support of the company.

"Wow. It's beautiful?" writes one user. "Surely if they are ordering a cake from you, they would be familiar with your style and appreciate it. People can be so weird."

"You can really see the love that's gone into this. What a shame, and shame on them for not returning it!" wrote another.

It just goes to show: if you write an email grumpy enough, you may be able to have your cake and eat it too.
