There's good news for bald men - while you have less hair, you have more intelligence, success, and masculinity.

In a study published in Social Psychological and Personality Science, Barry University Professor Dr Frank Muscarella asked participants to rate men on their perceived honesty, intelligence, and social status.

While baldness was decreased a man's perceived physical attractiveness, it raised their overall status.

"I speculated that male pattern baldness evolved as an appeasement signal and signalled benign, non-threatening dominance," he told the Daily Mail.

"There is a large body of literature that shows that although women like physically attractive men, they are also very attracted to signs of high social dominance."

His findings are backed by another study from a team of researchers at the University of Pennsylvania, which found bald men are often seen as more dominant and successful.

"Men with shaved heads will fare better economically in negotiations," the study said.

This study found the bald men are rated more attractive overall.

And another study at the University of Saarland found bald men tend to be seen by women as more intelligent and wiser.

However there is a catch. You have to be completely bald for the perception to apply - with men with bald spots or patterned baldness seen as weaker.
