Heartwarming moment US tourist surprises girlfriend with Rotorua zipline proposal

Despite it being the last place you'd want to drop a ring, a US holidaymaker has chosen a thrilling spot to put his heart on the (zip)line.

After six years with now-fiance Tina Mosaferi, Adam Korn decided a New Zealand holiday was the perfect place to pop the question.

From the US, he worked with the team at Canopy Tours in Rotorua for five months to plan the moment.

"We had never been to New Zealand but had heard of its incredible beauty," he told Newshub.

"I thought it would be a romantic trip, which would make the proposal even more special. I was pretty nervous overall because I was traveling with the ring.

"In addition, I wanted to make sure the engagement was kept a surprise for Tina... she didn't even know we were going zip-lining until that morning."

Mr Korn waited until the last platform to pop the question, with the lead guide holding the ring for the entire two-hour tour. The tail guide handed Ms Mosaferi a romantic letter from her boyfriend before she flew into the final stop.

Mr Korn says he waited until the last stop to avoid any instance in which Tina might have dropped the ring in excitement - smart thinking.

Ms Mosaferi says she couldn't have asked for a better proposal.

"I was not expecting this at all! This was the most romantic and beautiful setting to start our lives together. It's going to be hard to find a wedding venue to top this!"

Customer experience manager at Canopy Tours Eloise Roxburgh says she's elated - and relieved.

"We wanted to pull out all the stops for them. I'm so happy she said yes, the whole team has been nervously and excitedly waiting for today!"

The couple are now headed back to the United States, with some pretty great holiday photos to share.
