The definitive Newshub Valentine's Day guide

Valentine's Day is just about upon us: The day where we invest time, energy and money into showing our loved ones how much we care (as opposed to the rest of the year).

But if you've left it until the last minute, don't worry! Newshub has put together a definitive guide to help.

WHAT TO BUY

Nespresso over ice

If you fight your coffee machine for your other half's affection, these limited edition Nespresso capsules are designed to be enjoyed over ice - perfect for the soaring temperatures. A little gift pack of the Ispirazione Salentina and Ispirazione Shakerato capsules, along with the Aeroccino milk frother will be your best friend for cold milk recipe creations.

Weleda body butter

Cult celeb favourite Weleda skin food has long been a staple of every beauty bag, handbag and nappy bag. Now the much-loved product - a favourite of Rihanna, Adele and Victoria Beckham - has branched out into body butter and a lip balm, both more glorious than the last. I would go the body butter for a Valentine's Day gift though - it's a big pot of heaven.

These have only just been launched in New Zealand, so give one for Valentine's Day and earn some serious brownie points.

Wireless charging pad

If you're like me and you're always that person asking around the office for a spare charger, this is one of those gifts where you're going to want to buy one for you, and one for your partner.

Just pop your phone on the charging pad and it will automatically light up and start charging - perfect for on the office desk, the kitchen while you're cooking dinner, etc.

Puma gear

If your love has a love of pounding pavements or pumping iron, the new Puma range has plenty of pastels perfect for that Valentine's Day hill sprint, or whatever else fitness people do on dates.

My pick is Cali Nubuck range - the sunset tones are perfect for V day.

Glamping voucher

It's a gift for both of you! Which of course are the best gifts of all. But seriously, a glamping voucher is a phenomenal gift - there are options for more bougie and more basic escapes, depending on your budget.

Now is the perfect time to book a glamping escape as well - back to work means less demand and cooler temperatures hopefully mean less mozzies.

These Canopy Camping ones are fab, and have options all over the country.

Alcohol

Wine always goes down a treat (unless your loved one is on the wagon, then maybe give this a miss). My two picks in these hot temperatures is this Brown Brothers Prosecco in which pairs with summer favourites like fruit platters, cured meats or sushi.

And in very cool news - geddit - Taylor's has a range of reds they suggest you serve  CHILLED - meaning the red wine lover in your life doesn't have to wait until winter.

WHAT TO DO

If you've left your V Day plans to the last minute - do not fear! There are still some date night options left in the works.

'Movies in Parks' screening

Auckland Council is putting on a Valentine's Day showing of La La Land; a great date for your loved one or even just for friends.

Family activities from 6:20pm and the movie starts at sunset - plus sponsor Menulog will be there with free pizza and goodies to give away!

FED meal delivery

Choose from a two, three, or four-course heat-and-eat menu to be delivered to your doorstep, meaning you can focus on your loved one and not on cooking.

There's also an option of wine pairings to make it extra fancy, and the Whittakers chocolate mousse looks insane.

Get in quick though - 'Valendine' registering ends on Monday night!

Game Over

If you and your date are still children at heart, Game Over, an indoor entertainment centre in Auckland, has go-karts, mini putt and laser tag, with epic views to boot

They have a Valentine's Day special: buy one get one free on karting and mini-putt, and are open until 9pm.

Bonus romance #inspo

How about this from the boyfriend of one Newshub's digital team, Emma:

"Another thing Marty and I do is take turns planning each year for each other, so it's a complete surprise! Last year he took me on four different mini dates with each place spelling out a letter of my name: E was espresso martinis, M was Mission Bay etc."

TAKE NOTE PEOPLE.
