'Tiny penis' and period emojis coming this year

The 230 new emojis coming to Android and iOS this year have been revealed, and a couple have already sent the internet into overdrive.

Easily the one that has people most excited is the new 'pinching hand' emoji; a hand holding the index finger and thumb close together.

As you can imagine, the meaning of the image does not appear to be "a small pinch of salt". Instead it's been dubbed by the internet as the 'small d**k' emoji.

"So many men are about to be severely roasted in girl's group chats" one Twitter user wrote.

"Emoji officiel de la small d**k energy," wrote another.

But one unimpressed Tweeter called the addition "shallow and bollocks".

Also causing a stir is a red water droplet, which really only brings one thing to mind.

The arrival of the 'period emoji' reportedly follows a petition of more than 55,000 people for its introduction, led by global girl's rights charity Plan International UK.

Vogue reports that a survey by the group found almost half of women aged 18-34 believed that a period emoji would make it easier to discuss periods with friends and partners.

"The inclusion of an emoji which can express what 800 million women around the world are experiencing every month is a huge step towards normalizing periods and smashing the stigma which surrounds them," says Lucy Russell, a Plan International UK spokesperson.

There's no official word on when the new emojis will be arriving on your device, with Emojipedia saying they'll be rolled out over the year.
