Exciting news for Auckland food and cocktail lovers; two internationally recognised bars will make their way to Auckland later this year.

Hospitality and design firm AvroKO announced today that Mexican-influenced tequila bar Ghost Donkey and bodega-style cocktail bar GENUINE Liquorette will be permanent fixtures in the new Commercial Bay precinct, set to open later this year.

The pair will join the already announced award-winning NYC and Moscow restaurant, Saxon + Parole.

Set to cater for cocktail and Mexican food lovers, Ghost Donkey is already in New York City and the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las Vegas, while GENUINE Liquorette has a home in London.

Described as a "high-energy, electric Mexican-influenced tequila and mezcal bar," Ghost Donkey's cocktail menu will be led by mixologist Ignacio 'Nacho' Jimenez.

A spokesperson says the bar will serve more than 40 styles of mezcal, as well as lots of tequila-laced sodas and popsicle treats.

Chef Brad Farmerie, who has collaborated with Nacho for more than 15 years, will deliver a food menu focused on Nachos Especiales, a haute version of the classic with ingredients including house made mole and truffles.

GENUINE Liquorette describes itself as an "inclusive cocktail bar", and says it's accessible to all.

"The concept of GENUINE Liquorette is centred around demystifying cocktail culture and creating a platform in which everyone can engage, experiment and enjoy cocktails," says a spokesperson.

The menu across all three venues will be helmed by AvroKO's Michelin-starred executive chef, Brad Farmerie, who spent a decade working under Peter Gordon in London and who says he has deep ties to New Zealand.

Both bars are scheduled to open in Commercial Bay in Spring 2019.
