An abandoned baby bird was rescued by a drunk man and his Uber account in Utah last weekend.

The man phoned the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Northern Utah after he found a baby lesser goldfinch in a sorry state on the ground.

Staff at the rehabilitation centre said the man was unable to drive as he had "had a few too many" drinks but was determined to help the chick.

"Thank you to the rescuer who helped this little one get the care it needed in a timely manner and thank you for keeping yourself safe and others on the road safe as well!" the centre wrote on its Facebook page.

Using the popular app, the man then sent an Uber to take the bird to the centre for help.

The goldfinch, nicknamed "Petey" by staff, was thin and dehydrated when it arrived, 7News reported the centre's director Dalyn Marthaler as saying.

Petey was expected to be released into the wild again in a few weeks.

It's unclear what rating the Uber driver gave the bird passenger.
