Labour MP Tāmati Coffey and husband welcome baby boy

Labour MP Tāmati Coffey and his husband Tim Smith have welcomed their new baby boy into the world.

The Wairiki MP shared the happy news in a Facebook post on Wednesday morning.

"He's here. And he came into this world surrounded by his village. #modernfamilies," the politician and former TV host captioned the adorable image.

"Mum doing awesome. Dads overwhelmed at the miracle of life."

Messages of congratulations have already begun to pour in on the post.

Coffey first revealed the couple was expecting at Auckland's Big Gay Out earlier this year.

He later told the Rotorua Daily Post that Smith was the biological father of the baby and their surrogate mother was "a friend of a friend".

Congratulations to the whole whānau!
