Threesome hook-up app 3Fun exposes user in UK Prime Minister's office

A threesome hook-up has suffered a disastrous leak of its users' information - exposing their locations, sexual orientation and even private photos.

Dating app 3Fun calls itself the "best threesome app for 3some lovers", aimed at "local kinky, open-minded people".

"Discover your sexuality and explore it by yourself, with your other half or with any human you'd like. Explore love beyond societal norms," it says.

However, security researchers Pen Test Partners have discovered huge vulnerabilities in the app which allow anyone to find the personal information, real-time location, sexual preferences, chat data and private photos of any of the app's 1.5 million users.

"This one really takes the biscuit: probably the worst security for any dating app we've ever seen," Pen Test Partners said in a post on its site.

"This is a privacy train wreck: how many relationships or careers could be ended through this data being exposed?"

Their post showed how it was possible to glean a user's location, which threw up some surprising results. One person had their location set inside the US White House, while others could be found at Number 10 Downing Street in London - the UK Prime Minister's office - and at the US Supreme Court.

Penn Test Partners says it is technically possible to re-write your position, so it's possible users have been "having fun making their position appear as if they are in the seat of power".

It adds that given the security flaws, the data can be used to "stalk users in near real-time, expose their private activities and worse".

According to Pen Test Partners, they contacted 3Fun about this on July 1 and asked them to fix the security flaws.

3Fun reportedly replied: "Thanks for your kindly reminding. We will fix the problems as soon as possible. Do you have any suggestion? [sic]"

A spokesman for 3Fun told tech website The Register the problem was quickly fixed.

"We took the action immediately and updated a new version on July 8th. We will focus on updating our product to make it safer," they said.
