New Zealand's vegans have formed a "world alliance" with fellow plant-based eaters in the Netherlands, Australia and Canada.
A spokesperson for the Vegan Society of Aotearoa New Zealand said teaming up will have some advantages.

"Together the Vegan World Alliance can command a louder voice for the animals, we can work with other global organisations regarding the health benefits of a vegan diet.
"We can pool our resources and help to save the planet upon which we all live, by reducing our reliance on animal products."
The spokesperson said the group is currently working on creating an international standard for vegan food to ensure manufacturers adhere to acceptable vegan practices.
"No matter which country you are in, if you ask for vegan, you will get vegan."
The alliance is also hoping to spread the vegan message and will work towards creating a "vegan world". According to a statement it's hoping to reduce reliance on animal products to zero within the next decade.
"We invite others with a shared vision and mission to join us in shaping the future of veganism," the spokesperson said.
