New Zealand Fashion Week may have wrapped for another year, but #streetstyle is well and truly here to stay.

With entire blogs dedicated to street attire and the likes of Harper’s Bazaar, Refinery29 and Vogue featuring regular galleries in honour of chic pedestrians, the art of capturing relaxed and effortless street style imagery is a global trend.

So, how to recreate your own beautiful street style images? While it comes naturally to some, for others it’s more of an awkward experience that leaves a camera roll full of duds.

Peroni NZFW Ambassador, Holly Wright faces no such struggle. As a full-time fashion and lifestyle content creator, she knows a thing or two about snapping the perfect street style image.

Follow Holly's how-to guide below; why not pretend you're in Milan if you can get away with it?

Opt for an interesting colour palette

I know Kiwis love to wear black, but think about swapping it out for whites, tans, light pinks and blues to stand out amongst the crowd for all the right reasons. I love to pair alike items with each other – think an all-neutral combination, denim on denim, all white, or brights with brights.

Mix high and low pieces

The art of mixing designer pieces with high-street brands is one of the oldest and most effective tricks in the book and one that can save your wallet a whole lot of grief. When purchasing your key items, think classic and timeless - such as a classic handbag, well-tailored jacket or anything silk. Pair these with trendy items from the likes of Zara or H&M to create a unique look that will photograph well without breaking the bank!

It's in the details

Never underestimate the power of an accessory. This season’s most popular adornments included hair clips, headbands, miniature handbags, and strappy heels. Never know what to do with your hands in photos? You’re not alone, with over 133,500 Instagram photos currently tagged #awkwardhand. Avoid this by grabbing something to hold, like a drink!

Lock down a good photographer

Whether it’s your best friend or a professional photographer, find someone who makes you feel comfortable and isn't afraid to give creative direction. I was lucky enough to work with professional Luke FM Photography for Fashion Week, but usually employ the help of a friend. Ideally, someone who’s not afraid to get in some funny positions to capture all the best angles!

Seek out the Italian hotspots

Nothing says style quite like Italian hospitality. You may not be in Italy like half of New Zealand, but you can pretend you are! Restaurants such as Baduzzi and Non Solo Pizza offer the perfect backdrop for a European-esque snap. The Peroni Bar was the epicentre of activity during New Zealand Fashion Week, offering refreshment between shows and, naturally, beautiful styling making for the perfect backdrop.

Embrace the outdoors

Make the most of your outdoor environment and the cityscape around you. Auckland’s Town Hall served as a super 'grammable spot this year, and the Viaduct is fool-proof with its open space, water, and industrial surroundings. I swear by finding natural light to keep content fresh, too, so it’s worth the trip outside for the perfect shot.

Now, all that's left to do is get snapping using the tips above, and watch the compliments roll in!
