A funeral in Germany ended on a high after mourners were served hash cake by accident.

German police said after the burial in Wiethagen the funeral party went to a restaurant for coffee and cake, which is the custom in Germany, AP reported.

Police said the cafe's owner had asked his 18-year-old daughter to bake a cake for the occasion.

Unbeknown to him his daughter also baked a hash cake, which she unwisely put in the freezer next to the funeral cake.

On the day of the funeral the owner's unsuspecting wife took the hash cake by mistake and served it to the mourners, the Guardian reported.

The 13 guests who ate the cake all experienced nausea and dizziness and needed medical treatment.

The daughter is under investigation by the police, The Guardian reported.

AP said the incident happened in August but details were only just released out of respect for the mourners.
