Chocolate ramen: The strange new Valentine's Day meal trending in Tokyo

Golden syrup on bacon pancakes, fries dipped in milkshakes and peanut slabs in mince pies are just some sweet-savoury combos you could probably eat without much judgment.

But could you stomach a chocolate soup topped with chicken? Or a strawberries and cream broth with an egg on the side?

For Valentine's Day on Friday, chefs in Tokyo are getting rather adventurous and serving up a few romantic specials - they're crafting not just the usual heart-shaped sushi, they're taking sweet-savoury combos next level.

First up is the popular chain restaurant Kourakuen. It's offering chocolate ramen served with ginger, chicken and a small chocolate bar on top.

And there's a white chocolate broth also available with cacao oil, cream and a few slices of chicken.

A famous lamb restaurant, Mensho Tokyo, is also getting onboard the sweet soup trend, serving up mazesoba - which includes soy sauce, pork lard, garlic, raw egg, minced meat and for its romantic spin... chocolate-infused noodles!

Kipposhi is offering an exclusive 'Pink Valentines Ramen', which is a basic chicken broth topped with strawberries, whipped cream and a pink chocolate bar.

Fruit and chocolate is a bit more normal, right? Papapapapine already serves up pineapple ramen, but for Valentine's Day it's also adding a chocolate twist: a pineapple broth base combined with spicy chocolate-infused dan dan noodles. The result: a spicy chocolate flavour.

I think I'll stick to dipping my fries in a milkshake and steering clear from this chicken and chocolate combo.
