Survey reveals first names of people more likely to spend big online

A new survey in the UK has revealed people who are called Karen and Joshua are more more likely to spend more when shopping online.

British marketplace OnBuy.com surveyed 3000 of their shoppers to understand their spending habits.

Shoppers with the names Emma and Matt were found to be the most thrifty online while Karen and Joshuas came out on top for spending their money.

Frugality was decided as people who opted for deals and discounts over full-priced products.

One surprising statistic the survey found was 34 percent of respondents admitted to spending over half their monthly income online. This was followed by 57 percent who said they spend approximately a third.

But another common spending habit found was nearly half of their respondents (45 percent) spent the majority of their extra money on food and drink.

The survey also confirmed people enjoyed the experience of online shopping with 97 percent agreeing and 88 percent responding that they regularly shop online.

But online shopping wasn't the only thing those surveyed liked to buy, almost half of the respondents (45 percent) spent most of their spare money on food and drinks.

Cas Paton, the founder and CEO of OnBuy.com said in a statement the online platform see a lot of habits and trends and was interested to see what names were synonymous with big and little spenders.

"We thought it would be fascinating to see which names are synonymous with the top spenders onsite, and also the names of those who are more careful with their money, opting for deals and discounts over full-priced products.

"Who knew there's such a common parallel with names and shopping habits, there seems to be a lot more to a name than we initially thought!"

He said other common trends in their shoppers were location and ages.
