Vintage: The best drops to sip while you watch what you drink

With temperatures reaching searing highs this weekend, there's no better time to kick back with a crisp, cold glass of white.

If you don't already have plans on Saturday, we would highly advise sipping one while you tune into Three to watch Vintage, a documentary said to be the first of its kind in New Zealand.

Set on location in four of Villa Maria's wineries, the film shows the intensely gruelling labour that goes into making a glass of their Sauvignon Blanc.

If you're having a little tasting party, we've put together some platter inspiration with notes about the wine you're about to watch go from grape to glass.

Villa Maria 2019 Sauvignon Blanc

Pair with smoked salmon, cherry tomatoes, carrot sticks, hummus and other savoury goodness.

A great aperitif wine, serve chilled on warm summer days. Its fresh herbal flavours match well with most salads and any fish recipes.

Villa Maria 2019 Pinot Gris

Pair with scallops, prawns, soft cheeses, salads and white meats.

This Pinot Gris has fresh and intense aromatics of pear, red apple and honeysuckle, leading to a rich and textured mouth feel and an off-dry finish.

Cellar Selection 2019 Sauvignon Blanc

Pair with rock melon wrapped in prosciutto, orange quarters, fresh cherries and dates.

With pungent herbal aromas leading into a juicy palate bursting with zesty grapefruit and rockmelon, rounded off with a weighty finish, this wine will get those taste buds popping.

You can watch Vintage on Three this Saturday, February 15 at 10:35pm or stream it on ThreeNow from Sunday, February 16.
